CAOC bills make headway
in final weeks of session



SACRAMENTO– As the 2015-16 Legislative Session winds to a close, CAOC President Elise Sanguinetti provides a brief video rundown of how consumer justice has fared so far in the state Capitol. Among the bills being sponsored by Consumer Attorneys of California is a series of measures to help citizens deal with forced arbitration clauses that deny a constitutional right to their day in court. CAOC is also backing a bill to ensure fair compensation for undocumented persons injured through no fault of their own and another measure requiring doctors to use the state’s lifesaving prescription drug database. Watch

SB 482 addresses "doctor shopping" that fuels prescription drug abuse by requiring MDs to check prescription drug database. As recently as 2014, fewer than 5% bothered even to register to use the system.

Gov. Jerry Brown’s signing of AB 2159 eliminates 30-year injustice for undocumented immigrants. Requires equal treatment for all regardless of immigration status when seeking damages in court.
