CAOC Launches Women’s Caucus –
Holds Opening Networking Receptions

By Ingrid Evans, CAOC Women’s Caucus Chair

The Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) Women’s Caucus is off to a breakneck start! The Women’s Caucus was recently formed to further the goal of diversity in CAOC and to provide a gateway to leadership for prospective and current women members. At the first business meeting in January, the Women’s Caucus decided it would start off the year with a series of networking receptions for women consumer attorneys in each of the major metropolitan areas in California. The inaugural networking event co-hosted by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association Women’s Caucus was Wednesday, March 12, at Azul in San Francisco, with more than 100 in attendance. We were honored to have the Honorable Susan Illston, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District, as the first speaker at this kickoff event.

I want to thank the San Francisco Trial Attorneys Association Women’s Caucus, Juliette Bleecker, Nancy Fineman and the host committee (Mary Alexander, Simona Farrise, Elizabeth Cabraser, Lori Andrus, Miriam Bourdette, Althea T. Kippes, Elise Sanguinetti, and Wilda White) for working with me to set up this initial event. A special thanks goes to Simona Farrise, Farrise Law Firm (www.farriselaw.com), for hosting the bar and to Miriam Bourdette for providing appetizers!

The Women’s Caucus will also sponsor discussions and workshops to identify and overcome obstacles that impede women consumer attorneys. Some of the Caucus’ goals will be to provide a forum to assist women in forming professional relationships, create mentoring opportunities, sponsor social events, and create and implement strategies for increasing the number of women in the profession, as well as in CAOC membership.

We will hold the first formal Women’s Caucus elections at the business meeting in Novmeber at the CAOC Annual Convention in San Francisco. For information about upcoming events and how to get involved in the CAOC Women’s Caucus, please go to www.caoc.com/WomensCaucus or email Laurie@caoc.org.
