A Reflection of Strength in Sacramento
By Don Ernst, CAOC President

Lobby Day '08 was a resounding success. This year’s event truly was a reflection of our strength in Sacramento. With plaintiff attorneys from around the state joining forces in Sacramento to participate, this was one of the most well attended events in Lobby Day history. The turnout is a true testament to your understanding of the importance of the legislative process and how it affects the civil justice system.

The morning session offered Senate President pro Tem-Elect Darrell Steinberg discussing the important role consumer attorneys play and causes they are willing to champion. The luncheon keynote speaker was Senator Ellen Corbett, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senator Corbett reviewed pending legislation and the valuable role our legislative advocates play in the Capitol. More than 80 legislative meetings were scheduled and conducted by our members. An evening reception concluded our day and was attended by legislative members and staff, along with CAOC members and staff.

The importance of our annual Lobby Day is absolute. It’s more than perception. We carried a mighty message in protecting the civil justice system and consumer rights. We demonstrated to members of the Legislature and their staffs that we believe so much in what we do on a day-to-day basis that we took a day to be in Sacramento to deliver the message, as well.

I want to thank each of you who helped make our 2008 Lobby Day a huge success.
