CAOC and OCTLA Masters Seminar -
The Critical Elements of Opening Statement

July 26, 2007
Tustin

By Mark B. Wilson, OCTLA Chair of Education

Bruce Broillet presented a fascinating talk on opening statements on July 26, 2007 at a joint event sponsored by Orange County Trial Lawyers Association (OCTLA) and Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC).  Bruce explained that while demonstrative evidence is important, there is nothing like the spoken word to help juries understand our clients' stories.  Choosing the right words for the audience is critical.  Bruce gave several examples of how the same story told with different words, provokes different emotions.  Not surprisingly, Bruce had everyone's attention.  If Bruce had enough time, I would gladly have him give all my opening statements.

CAOC is reaching out to OCTLA again next year with two additional programs. OCTLA very much appreciates CAOC's support.
