CAOC and Santa Clara Trial Lawyers Association
Liens Seminar - Wrap-up

Aug 24, 2006
San Jose

On August 24, 2006, the Consumer Attorneys of California College of Trial Arts in conjunction with the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association held a seminar regarding recent developments in lien law affecting our practices. David E. Smith of Sacramento spoke on “Medicare Set Asides,” and Elisa R. Zitano of Sacramento spoke on “How to Prepare and File a Formal Petition for a Full or Partial Waiver of Medicare’s Claim for Reimbursement.” Scott Sumner of Walnut Creek spoke on Hanif issues and “The Reasonable Value of Medical Services, in Evidence and in Recovery.” Michael Fitzpatrick of San Jose chaired the seminar and addressed recent developments in MediCal, hospital, insurance, auto Med Pay and ERISA lien and reimbursement claims.

More than 80 attorneys attended the seminar, and from all reports it was considered very informative. The seminar was organized through the hard work of Lori Sarracino, CAOC Education Director, and Ed Vasquez, the Executive Director of the SCCTLA. Fitzpatrick said, “It was great to see the combined power of our local and state associations get together to reach a far broader audience than we might otherwise have anticipated for the program. I hope we can plan many more joint seminars of this type, as they strengthen both organizations and give our memberships the quality continuing education that we all deserve.”
